This needed an update. It's now October 2009...and wow!

All I can say is time flies. Little about me...

Name: Yukimi [if you can't see that already ha!]

Age: 19 [20 in a few months' time!]

Location: Indiana, USA.

Education: Attending college for Graphic Design.

Art: .. I started drawing since I could hold a pencil (who hasn't?) but I wasn't serious about making it a part of my profession until I was 17, when I discovered another great artist. It's been nigh two years since I began the road to improvement, and I don't plan on stopping until I've landed a good job in the field! (Okay, I won't even stop when I'm hired for illustration work. An artist can't stop improving. ^_^ )

Writing: I don't have any up here, admittedly, and hardly anywhere else on the net [anymore]. But I'm writing a saga called Thundering Magic. Currently, I finished the first book and now trying to find an agent to get it [hopefully] traditionally published. Wish me luck.

Oh yes...fantasy is love. <3

DO you follow art as a potential career? you should, i think. I would love to have a tablet...is it very like using a pencil?

:-) Yukimi Mills replies: "Actually, yes, I do. I’m working on refining my style so that companies from Wizards of the Coast may fancy enough to hire me as a freelance artist. Also, I’m taking Graphic Design in college to meet the criteria to be able to apply for jobs as an illustrator or art director for massive publishing companies. I’m still a way’s from my goal, but it’s fun learning. :]

A tablet is like using a pencil...*once* you get used to it. Because you can’t look down at it while you draw, you have to teach yourself to keep your eyes on the monitor and move the pen just as you would a traditional pencil. It took me a couple weeks to adjust, but different people adjust at different rates (could depend how much you use it too.) Wacom recently came out with the Cintique tablet, which is like a monitor on the tablet itself, so it’s more natural because you can look at what you’re drawing, and the colors are more natural than a standard monitor’s. I’d love one of those, but they cost between $1,000 - $2,000 *faints*

Sorry for the huge (and kinda late) reply, heh. ^_^;;"

Thanks for the tag. 2 Now I’ll really have to update that piece to a better version some day 12

:-) Yukimi Mills replies: "Hehe, no worries. I think it’s alright as it is. Scanners tend to be a drawing’s worst nightmare (my own scans everything purplish and bright so I have to adjust them in photoshop. Annoying, so I ought to take a peak at the settings, but meh...it’s not that tedious.)

Keep up the artwork :] "

FAR OUT!!! You’re so good!!! i need to learn how to use photoshop- do you have any pointers?

:-) Yukimi Mills replies: "Ah, I’m not that good, but thanks. :]

The best way to learn is by experimenting and vigilant practice. I self-taught myself to where I’m at now, using tutorials from places like DeviantART.com and studying artists that I admire. ^_^;

A couple pointers though, if you’re new to photoshop - never, ever, rely on Dodge/Burn tools for highlights and shadows. Those are the absolute quickest ways to deteriorate a picture’s charm. Use colors with the airbrush or paint brush on low opacity. Another thing is not to use strictly gray/black/brown as a shadow for skin and clothes. Use hues and mix colors. For example, pink/purple with brown for warm colors; purple/blue/brown for cold colors. (of course, there could be more violets, oranges, reds, teal, etc depending on the atmosphere of the painting) They help bring a drawing to life. :]

I can link you to some helpful tutorials that have helped me if you would like."
